HONEST ADVICE ON YOUR SYSTEM.

We aren’t tied to one brand. We recommend what fits your budget and usage.

IS YOUR HOT WATER SYSTEM DYING?

We’ve all been there, it’s a Monday morning and you are getting ready for your day as you would on any other day only this morning when you turn the tap on for your shower you are greeted with freezing cold water. What now?

RUSTY OR DIRTY WATER

Brown or dirty looking water coming out of the faucet when you turn the hot water on is a clear sign something isn’t right, if the dirty water only shows itself when you turn the hot tap on your hot water service needs some urgent attention.

WARM WATER LEAKS

Water pooling or staining around the base of the hot water unit is a sign that your hot water unit is struggling somewhere. We can go through an over the phone diagnosis with you to help assess if your system needs attention.

COLD WATER SURPRISES

The shower runs cold after only a few minutes, even if its first thing in the morning… That’s a sure sign your hot water system is not running efficiently, hot water should be available at all times when a hot water unit is running correctly.

GAS OR ELECTRIC? TRADITIONAL OR HEAT PUMP?
THE HONEST BREAKDOWN FROM A PLUMBER.

Don’t just swap “like-for-like” without looking at the numbers. The technology has changed, and so have the running costs.

When your hot water system dies (usually in the middle of a shower), the panic instinct is to just install the same thing again. But for many homes in Lara and surrounding Geelong suburbs, that means locking in higher energy bills for the next 10 years.

We install, repair, and upgrade all types: Electric, Gas, Solar, and Heat Pumps. Here is a no-nonsense guide to choosing what fits your family and your budget.

HOT WATER SYSTEM ADVICE

A quick guide to the different types of hot water systems and the pros and cons of each.

HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS

The Bill Slasher

The Good:
These are incredibly energy-efficient, up to 3x more than standard electric systems. They have very low running costs and play nicely with your solar panels to essentially heat water for free during the day. Plus, government rebates can help with the purchase price.
The Bad:
The upfront cost is higher ($2,000–$6,000 range), though we offer interest-free payment plans to help manage this. They need good ventilation (the fan needs to breathe), can be a bit noisier than a silent tank, and you need a quality unit to handle chilly Geelong winter mornings.
Best For:
Families who want to minimize their carbon footprint and slash their quarterly energy bills.

INSTANTANEOUS / CONTINUOUS FLOW SYSTEMS

The Space Saver

The Good:
You never run out of hot water. If you have teenagers who shower for 20 minutes, this is the solution. It saves space in the garden and you aren’t paying to keep a tank of water hot while you’re at work.
The Bad:
While the water is endless, the flow rate is limited (you might notice a drop if two showers run at once). You may need a gas line upgrade to handle the sudden burst of energy needed. There is also a slight delay (lag) before hot water hits the tap.
Best For:
Apartments, smaller homes with limited space, or households with erratic hot water usage.

STORAGE TANK SYSTEMS

The Old Faithful

The Good:
Generally the cheapest to install upfront. They deliver high pressure to multiple taps simultaneously without that “cold sandwich” lag.
The Bad:
You are paying to keep water hot at 3 am when no one is using it (standby heat loss). If you drain the tank, you have to wait for it to reheat. They take up a fair bit of space in your yard or storage cupboard.
Best For:
Budget-conscious buyers needing a quick fix, or large families with high simultaneous demand (e.g., three showers running at once).

NO “SUPPLY SHOCK”.

“When we quote a hot water system, the price includes everything. The unit, the valves, the plumbing, and taking the old rusty tank away. No hidden ‘extras’ on the final bill.”
