Do you need a new tap, or just a washer?

REPAIR IT IF:

The tap body is in good condition (shiny chrome), but it just drips.
A service kit (washers, O-rings, spindle clean) usually fixes it for years saving you money and prevents extra landfill.

REPLACE IT IF:

The chrome is peeling, the handle is seized, or it’s a “mixer tap” (single handle) that is leaking from the base.
Mixer taps are generally non-serviceable and cheaper to replace.

Why does my tap still leak after I changed the washer?

If you’ve swapped the washer and the tap is still dripping, the brass “seat” inside the tap body is likely scored or pitted. Simply putting a new flat washer against a jagged seat won’t create a watertight seal. We use specialized reseating tools to grind the brass seat perfectly smooth again, then install commercial-grade washers and O-rings so the tap feels brand new.

How much does it cost to get a plumber out to fix a leaking toilet or tap?

We always try to help you diagnose and resolve the issue over the phone for free first. If that doesn’t work, an on-site diagnosis is usually required. If your property is located in our Zone 1 service area (Lara, Little River, Corio, Norlane, Avalon, Point Wilson), we do not charge a call-out fee. For other zones, a diagnostic fee may apply depending on the location, which we will clearly explain upfront. Once on-site, we provide a guaranteed fixed price to repair or replace the fixture before we start any work.

Can you replace the rubber flexi-hoses under my sink?

Yes, and we highly recommend it. Burst flexi-hoses are the number one cause of sudden indoor flooding in Victoria. If the braided steel hoses under your sinks or behind your toilet are rusting, fraying, or over 10 years old, they are a ticking time bomb. We swap them out for premium, burst-proof braided hoses for total peace of mind.

My water pressure is suddenly really low, what is causing it?

A sudden drop in water pressure to a single fixture usually means a blocked aerator or a failed cartridge. However, if the whole house has dropped in pressure, your mains Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV) has likely failed. By law, modern homes have a PLV set to a maximum of 500 kPa to protect your pipework and appliances. When these valves age, they restrict flow. We can test your static pressure and replace the valve if necessary.
